The 300 workout, from the film "300" is still a widely popular workout for people who want to challenge themselves with tremendously intense workout routines.

That training program came to be referred to as the 300 Workout Plan. The 300 workout gets its name from the total number of repetitions performed in the workout. 6 different exercises total 300 repetitions. There isn't anything particular about 300 reps. That number may be more of a marketing tactic then based on any foundation in exercise science. You will see beginners doing 100 reps and there are 500 rep versions as well.

In fact only 17 of the cast and crew had completed the 300 workout. The actual 300 workout program wrapped up the final months of training. Almost like a graduation test. It was only done after several months of heavy training with bodyweight, medicine balls, bars and Kettlebells. Hence don't think you are going to do this training routine everyday or jump into it if you are not in excellent shape.

Calling it "The 300 Workout, " you likely understand the purpose: You intend to look like one of the noble 300 warriors who defended their nation and culture against overwhelming swarms of attacking barbarians. As you examine still photos from the film, you itemize the objectives-six-pack abs, rippling biceps and forearms, shoulders the size of an old Buick, powerful legs, and general tone and harmony among all your perfectly toned muscle groups. In order to achieve these ambitious goals, you probably should begin with a Spartan frame of mind and a basic determination. First, the Spartans were dedicated to the ideal mens sana in corpore sano-a sound mind in a sound body. They were as well educated and as principled as they were fit. Second, Spartan warriors rigorously trained their bodies and minds for years. Your dedication to "The 300 Workout" cannot last only a few weeks or months; instead, it represents determination to a demanding lifestyle that includes personal development as well as physical conditioning.

“Buff” is good, Ripped Abs Are Better
Even professional bodybuilders, who earn fine prizes for their exquisite musculature, realize that pragmatics prevail over aesthetics. Translation: Functional strength matters much more than sheer bulk. Many beginners do not understand that they can add bulk to their muscles without any corollary gains in strength; in effect, they inflate their muscles simply for the sake of appearance-not at all what "the 300" had in mind, and certainly not what empowered them to withstand the siege. Even more to the point, when you commit to "The 300 Workout, " you commit to a fitness regimen that prepares you to prevail in battle. Because your neighborhood probably is not beset by barbarians, you should take a little time to study your "opponent, " asking and detailing the answers to, "At what, exactly, do you expect to triumph? " In other words, how can you adapt your workouts to the demands of your job and your every day life?

The original 300 Workout looked something like this:
· Pullups - 25 reps
· Deadlifts with 135lbs - 50 reps
· Pushups - 50 reps
· 24-inch Box jumps - 50 reps
· Floor wipers - 50 reps
· Single-arm Clean-and-Press with 36lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps
· Pullups - 25 reps

Mens Health, who was the first magazine to publish the 300 workout, actually did come out with a Bodyweight version. It looked something like this:
· 15 bodyweight rows
· 25 bodyweight squats
· 15 pushups
· 50 jumping jacks
· 20 mountain climbers
· 10 close grip pushups
· 15 bodyweight rows
As you can see, this workout only has 150 repetitions. You can double the repetitions to make it 300. There are hundreds of different variations to this workout that you can perform.

All it takes is a little creativity. For example, if you wanted to create a workout that trained your body to be more explosive, then you can perform a 300 workout like this:
· 30 Chinups
· 50 Squat Jumps
· 30 Clap Pushups
· 100 Jumping Jacks
· 40 Tuck Jumps
· 20 Dive Bombers
· 30 Pullups

The idea is to complete the workout as quickly as you can. The better shape you're in the faster you can complete the 300 workout.

There are a few factors that make this 300 workout so effective.

It is a total body workout. With the 300 workout you are affecting every muscle in your body.
The pull ups work your lats and biceps.

Deadlifts are excellent lower body exercise along with low back. The great thing about this exercise is that it is about as close to a full body motion as you can get. It is clear that the lower body and low back are at work. But what you may not notice is all the other muscles involved. Everything from your feet to your shoulders are working to get the weight of the floor.

The floor wipers work the core, arms, shoulders, and chest.

The box jumps add even more to the cardiovascular demands.

The clean and press is another highly demanding exercise that works your entire body and will leave you out of breath.

In general the 300 workout plan is a great exercise routine to help you shed unwanted body fat, build muscle, and increase your general fitness levels.
